Things you learn in a PhD

T: I just have to read this last paper.
F: If there is one thing I have learned...
F: There is always another paper
F: ... another to-do item
F: ... another email
F: ... another website with a crazy game or funny picture

Very very true - you never feel you have done enough!

And a lesson sorely need to learn is to go to bed at bedtime!

Thanks

This is soo true, and unfortunately it's easier said than done. Doing all nighters and missing sleep just leeds to depression, anxiety and in general a shit existence. Sleep like energy needs to be conserved. Lost sleep always catches up with you, with a vengeance. I would even go as far as to say that it is better to leave work incomplete and get a good night sleep and continue in the morning !

i have this problem, i stay awake and several catastrophic already happened to me, once i had a take home exam due in the morning at 9, i stayed awake all night to solve one damn question and fell asleep around 7 woke up at 12 and got a zero. Also i recognized that when i am awake during night, my focus and performance is around 20%, also my next day performance is around 50%, actually if you sleep, you will be 30% better off.
