Analogous Conversations

Today at the eyeglass store:

Me: Hi, I was wondering if you guys had replacement clip-on shades for my glasses.

Girl: We don't carry clip-on shades. We only make prescription sun glasses.

Me: ...

Girl: We recommend prescription sun glasses because they are closer to the eye and therefore provide better protection from UV rays.

To me, this conversation was analogous to the following:

Me: Hi, I would like to spend $20.

Girl: We only allow you to spend $250+.

Me: ...

Girl: We recommend the $250+ solution.

(hypothetical) Me: Ring it up! Spending 10x of what I'd originally intended sounds like a great idea.

I guess she was hoping I'd go for the prescription sun glasses.
